As Ned Stark once said, ‘Winter is coming!’ and this means the start of the Pros winter comps.
The 1st Pros Comp Saturday 30th October
The format for the Pros winter comps will be the same as normal, but with some fun new additions this year as well.
A reminder on how the pros winter comps work. They will be off the yellow tees, stableford competitions over 11 and 9 holes during the months of November to the end of February.
There will be 3 divisions just like the Summer comps and in each division there will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. Any player winning their division will have their handicap docked 2 stableford shots and any player in the frame twice e.g a 2nd one week and a 3rd another they will also be docked 2 stableford shots. Any future wins once already docked 2 stableford shots will result in a further reduction of handicap of 1 stableford shot.
New for 2021/22
This winter there will be a new order of Merit event called the SRG Cup. The idea is taken from the PGA tours Fed Ex Cup.
How it works
Every Saturday will be the same as normal for the winter comps however you will also be playing for for order of merit points. Each division is playing for 10 points, 1st place in each division is playing for 10 points 2nd place for 9 points and so forth with 10th place receiving 1 point.
There are also going to be 4 Rolex events (like on the European tour) and these comps will count for double points e.g 1st place in each division is playing for 20 points, 2nd place 19 points and so forth. The Rolex events will be held on the first Saturday of every month and therefore next Saturday will be the first Rolex event.
In addition to this on the third Saturday of every month there will be a fun comp I.e (1 kick, 1 throw and 1 mulligan) (lucky dip) etc.
Finally when we reach the month of February only those in the top 80 of the order of merit will still be in with a chance to win the SRG Cup. ** PLEASE NOTE** This does not mean if your not in the top 80 you can’t play in the comp, the Pros comps will run as normal over February however you need to be in the top 80 to still be in the order of merit and the race to the SRG Cup. From here the numbers still in with a chance to win the SRG Cup will be reduced on the 2nd week in February to only the top 60 (see where we’re going here, like the Fed Ex Cup). The third week in Feb only the top 40 and then the final week will be the top 20 in the order of Merit competing for the SRG Cup and a chance to win one of the 5 order of merit prizes.
Please remember if you don’t make it to the next round of the SRG Cup order of merit you can still play the Saturday comp in February they will be running as normal.
On the Final Saturday in February there will be a presentation to present the order of merit winner with the Cup and the top 5 places with their prizes.
I look forward to the pros comps starting a week on Saturday and letting race to the SRG Cup begin.
