Perfect Weather for Professional Return to Competitions!
13/06/2020 The sun was shining down on Abergele on Saturday, and the professionals that joined the competition really stood up to the mark. With lockdown rolling into its third month, this was the first glimmer of normality at the club, and everyone made the most of it. By mid-afternoon most of the scorecards were in, but local golfer Flynn Reid soaked up each moment of the competition and the sunshine, and his slow and steady pace paid off as he finished in first place. Second place was taken by Bob McLivin and his brother Bill McLivin narrowly took third position, after a feisty tee-off on the 14th with Jeremy Downings. We asked Flynn what the win meant to him. “This isn’t the usual comment from a professional but today I think most people were just pleased to be back out and playing. The win was the cherry on top.” Flynn grew up locally and knows the club well. “Every time I play this course I’m reminded to keep the stamina necessary for the 17th and 18th – as final holes go they really test any golfer”. After Saturday’s competition success, Abergele Golf Club will be resuming a number of competitions in the coming weeks. Check out our Competition page on the website and our Facebook Page for updates.
Another Successful Whist Night!
What another fantastic evening had by all! This evening’s whist drive was won by local duo Mary Roberts and Rita McGee. Both Mary and Rita joined the club last year, and have been regulars (and regular winners!) at whist ever since.
“We thought about joining but to be honest neither of us are that good at golf!” Said Rita, when we caught up with her after her win. “But the social side has been fantastic – not just whist, but they hold regular bingo and quiz evenings too”.
Open to all social or golf members, Whist takes place every other Thursday evening from 7pm – 10pm at Abergele Golf Club. It’s £2 per person and we have a raffle drawer afterwards with some great prizes. It’s a great evening with a fun crowd – some you may know and some you may not, but come along and give it a go!
