Abergele Golf Club are delighted to announce that they are hosting a Blind and Visually Impaired Taster Session on Saturday 11th of March 2023.
The special taster session will start at 1:30 pm and is supported by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). It is free to attend and open to both beginners and experienced golfers.
The session, led by PGA Fellow Professional Stuart and Assistant Professional Adam, is designed to give an insight into the world of golf, covering everything from putting and chipping to long game. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the sport and explore the possibilities of a new hobby for those that are visually impaired.
Iain, organiser of the Blind Golf Taster Session alongside Jeff Morris and Dave Reeney, said: “I lost my sight 6 years ago. I have both Retinitis Pigmentosa and Macular Degeneration but I didn’t let losing my sight hold me back from playing golf. I enjoy the sport more now than when I could see.”
“The hardest thing is to take the first step. However, once the nerves are out of the way, I guarantee you will realise how much fun golf can be! If you are losing your sight or have lost it, please come down on the 11th of March. There will be two professionals there, my sons, who know and are aware of how restrictive a visual impairment can be for everyone. They will show you how easy it can be when you lose your sight to play golf”
A spokesperson from the RNIB added: “Blind and partially sighted people are twice as likely to be inactive than people without sight loss and the RNIB would like to change that. Opportunities like this are a great way to try a new sport or get back into something you have dropped because of your eye condition. We are really excited to be supporting this event and hope that plenty of blind and partially sighted people will take up this fantastic opportunity. To find out more about what RNIB is doing to promote physical activity for people with a vision impairment, please see information on our See Sport Differently campaign https://www.rnib.org.uk/our-campaigns/see-sport-differently or call our Helpline on 0303 123 9999”
Please don’t be afraid. Come along and take the first step. To register your interest for the taster session, please contact Iain on 07507641325 or Megan on 07542828312.
